Mike's Enhanced Dune 2000 Trainer

Dune 2000I'm a sucker for this classic game. Originally the trainer stopped working after Windows 98SE, most likely due to the slight architecture differences between Win9x and WinNT (2000 and XP were based off NT.) I paid someone on RentACoder.com to patch up Razor's trainer so it would work under Windows XP, and he did a pretty good job. All of the features appear to work, except for "Show Map (F4)".

If you play multiplayer practice games, It appears that enabling Atreides = Player 1 (you), Ordos = Player 2 (computer), Harkonnen = Player 3 (computer) - the colors and units will not coordinate, but you can enable instant build for the other two players (which can be very fun, racing against the computer. It's almost impossible.)

Your Dune 2000 must be updated to version 1.06 - which is included below as well. It can be applied to the stock install without an issue.

Update: I am now hosting a neat collection of maps below thanks to the folks at FED2k/Dune2k.com. It appears their downloads are offline and I could not find any other place with them. Someone was nice enough to email them to me and I am hosting them here now for everyone to enjoy!

NOTICE: A lot of people claim this is a virus. I've ran multiple virus checkers and programs for years and have used this for years without a problem. I believe it is a false positive due to the fact that it is a program which alters the memory of another program - which is probably typical virus behavior. If anyone can identify what this supposed "virus" actually does I'll be more than happy to pay someone to investigate and fix it. However, I have never seen any malicious stuff on my system because of this, and if it was a true virus, it would be caught by all the major ones that I have used. So, don't use it if you're scared; it is no skin off my back. For the thousands of downloaders (including myself) who use it without being paranoid it's a virus - enjoy!

    If you don't have the game CD, then go buy one? It's probably like $5 on eBay, or $10 in a store... It might even be so old you can download it now like they did with older GTAs. I bought a copy I think off eBay years ago.

    Hi Michael,

    Like the player above, when I run the game the following message appears:
    "This is a spawned game. You may only join/play LAN multiplayer games. Please restart the game with the CD to continue." There is an OK button, but clicking it just returns you to the main menu. Even though I don't wish to play against anyone but the computer, to choose any main menu option simply returns to this error message.

    No, it shouldn't need to be placed anywhere specific. Does the Dune update apply properly?

    You need to put in your Dune 2000 install directory, like C:\Dune2000 or wherever you installed it to.

    Come on dudes, if you cannot pass first mission it means your iso copy is wrong! Get a correct iso, install, and optionally patch it with no-cd patch. WARNING: You must install and run from the first CD/DVD drive available on your PC otherwise it will not work. (eg: If you have 3 CD/DVD drives E: F: G: you must install and run from E:) 😉

    Sorry it took so long, I finally decided to take a crack at this.

    Windows XP SP3, all up to date:

    I tried my original Dune 2000 CD, but apparently now it has bad blocks. Ugh.

    So I mounted my backup ISO copy of it over the network using Daemon Tools Lite 4.30.3.

    It installed fine, to C:\Program Files\Dune 2000 (and the internet stuff in C:\Program Files\Dune 2000\Internet)

    Downloaded dune2000-v1.06-update.exe from my website, when prompted in the auto-extractor window, put in C:\Program Files\Dune 2000.

    Started up mikes-enhanced-dune2000-trainer.exe, and then started the game from the Start Menu.

    Alt-tabbing out of the game, I can see that my trainer's buttons are all active and selectable.

    I start out by picking Atreides, "Hard" level, select Instant Build, Unlimited Spice, etc. The first mission completes instantly since the only goal is to collect spice. Mission 2 starts out without an issue as well.

    Perhaps you guys do have a corrupt ISO copy? Everything works fine here, the .exe from my website is 100% intact. I haven't scanned it to check for those malware/whatever warnings though as I don't have any anti-virus on here, just Windows Defender. I did run this though a commercially licensed virus scanner (ESET) and both .exes came back clean...

    will it work for vista??

  32. mike
    December 18th, 2009 at 14:41 | #32

    @kezza
    Good question - I have not tested it in Vista (nor will I :))

    It would be good to know if it works in Win7, and Win7 64-bit.

    I do have a laptop with Win7 64-bit I could try it out on.

    Vista is a plague. Upgrade to Win7 at least, or downgrade to XP 🙂

    I uploaded IceCheat Trainer +5. Not so many options but it works (tested on: Windows 9x/XP SPx):

    http://uploadbox.com/files/409f10d4d0 /

    CAUTION: If you have issues with freezing display on dual or more graphics cards>just alt-tab>disable extra displays>alt-tab and you will be OK (Please read the readme of the game too. It helps a lot to set correct parameters for your display).

    Win7 is a plague too! I have installed a hacked version, but I don't want to get into the trouble to check if it runs DUNE 2000. Just for future Office releases, because I am sure they will drop support of XP to sell their garbage...

    Well yes, I still am against Windows 7, but if given the choice, it is MUCH better than Vista.

    URGENT:

    Michael Avira warns that your trainer is a Trojan:

    @Selim Wormrider

    I'm not really going to bother worrying about it. It's probably because it has the same traces of something that some other game trainers have in it that DO malicious stuff. Or it finds certain calls inside of it to be trojan-like. I mean it -does- alter memory addresses of the Dune 2000 program to make things work... that's probably virus-like behavior in itself. When I hired the RentACoder guy he did not mention anything "extra" when he was tinkering with it. Anyone - feel free to pick at it, make a version that doesn't get flagged as a trojan (if possible), or figure out what this trojan does, if it truly is one, because I don't know anything about it nor have ever noticed anything from using it 🙂

    Did you make sure to update everything? So it's 1.06?

    Also I still have not checked the game in anything above XP SP3. Not Vista or Win 7. I do have Win 7 on my laptop now, I can install the game and try it quick on that.

  43. mike
    May 15th, 2010 at 04:13 | #43

    @Anonymous
    Well, I wanted to test it anyway and totally forgot. Also, the update to 1.06 is in the links above. It should apply right on top of an installed directory. Unless you're saying you can't update it because it is cracked. I have a legit copy and I don't see where the copy protection comes into play though. It doesn't require the CD or anything else.

    There are some crack for v1.06 in different languages. Just search it using Google.com or faster: gamecopyworld.com or gameburnworld.com. Trust me. I've done it and now i'm playing House Harkonnen, mission 8 with a lot of unit!

    I really like playing all the levels in Dune2000 with the original trainer in Win 98 but it hasn't worked since I upgraded to Win2000 then Xp.
    Finally found one that works in Xp (thanks entirely to you)
    I shall be eternally grateful

    Well, bad news - I can't seem to figure out how to get Dune 2000 to install on 64-bit Windows 7. So I can't test compatibility on my new laptop. 🙁

    Without running it inside of a VM or something of course, in which case, it would obviously be compatible assuming it's 32-bit XP or any other compatible OS. :p

    Whenever I try to download the trainer, my antispyware blocks it and says it's a high risk trojan horse.

  49. mike
    June 7th, 2010 at 00:36 | #49

    @Luke
    What version of anti-spyware/etc? Someone had linked (possibly above, I'm lazy) and it was flagged as a Trojan in a few out of hundreds of anti-virus programs. I think because of it's nature of modifying memory segments or whatever it needs to do to alter how the game runs, the signatures in the file look malicious.

    hey man, you're awsome, nuff said!
    this is the only site I've found with a site that actually has the damn trainer on the site for download, others were just links I found that were dead ones to sites that just deleted the files. hope you keep up the files here and keep up the good work, cause... Best Trainer Evar!
